Stop the arms race, find peaceful solutions

The European Union funnels resources from civil society to arms manufacturing.

Rearmament draws attention away from the climate crisis.

50 years ago, in 1975, diplomats and heads of state met in Helsinki in a Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe.

They wanted to reduce Cold War tensions.

The Helsinki Final Act contains their solutions.

This summer, peace organisations in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden united in the Nordic Peace Alliance (NPA) and peace, human rights, migration, antiracist and environmental movements from all over the world have worked together to create a new document inspired by the Helsinki Final Act.

Farmers and trade unions have also contributed.

The goal is once again to stop the arms race and find peaceful solutions.

The Helsinki +50 People’s Declaration on Common Security and Human Rights is the first result of our collective work.

It calls for peace and cooperation in solving the social and environmental crises facing humanity.
